Child Safety Seat Installation

At our Black Taxi Car Service, the safety of every passenger—especially children—is our highest priority. Properly securing child safety seats is essential to providing a safe, compliant, and comfortable ride. Below is an overview of the approved methods used to fasten child seats in vehicles and the standards we follow to ensure they are installed correctly.

Seat Belt Installation

Most child safety seats can be securely installed using the vehicle’s factory-installed seat belt system. This method is reliable and effective when performed correctly.

Our Standards

  • The seat belt is routed through the manufacturer-designated belt path.
  • The belt is fully locked and tightened to eliminate slack.
  • Pressure is applied during installation to ensure a secure fit.
  • The seat is checked to confirm it does not move more than one inch at the belt path.

This method is commonly used when vehicle anchor systems are unavailable or when seat specifications require seat belt installation.

LATCH System Installation

Many of our vehicles are equipped with the LATCH system (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children), which allows child seats to be attached directly to the vehicle’s anchor points.

Our Standards

  • Lower anchors are used only in designated seating positions.
  • Child seat connectors are securely attached and tightened.
  • Weight limits set by both the vehicle and child seat manufacturer are strictly followed.
  • For forward-facing seats, the top tether is always used.

LATCH installation provides added stability and is widely recommended when permitted by seat and vehicle guidelines.

Top Tether Use for Forward-Facing Seats

Forward-facing child safety seats are always secured with a top tether when available.

Why This Matters
The top tether reduces forward movement in the event of sudden braking or a collision, helping to lower the risk of head and neck injuries.

Our drivers ensure tether straps are attached only to approved anchor points and tightened according to manufacturer specifications.

Rear-Facing Child Seats

Rear-facing child seats offer the highest level of protection for infants and young children and are used whenever age, height, and weight requirements indicate.

Our Standards

  • Seats are installed at the correct recline angle.
  • Harness straps are positioned at or below the child’s shoulders.
  • The seat is secured using either the seat belt or LATCH system, as approved by the manufacturer.

Children remain rear-facing for as long as permitted by the child seat’s specifications.

Booster Seats and Seat Belt Positioning

For older children who have outgrown harnessed seats, booster seats are used to properly position the vehicle’s seat belt.

Proper Fit Includes

  • The lap belt resting low across the hips.
  • The shoulder belt crossing the center of the chest and shoulder.
  • The child sitting upright for the duration of the ride.

Booster seats are only used when a child meets all size and maturity requirements.

Ongoing Safety Commitment

  • All installations follow manufacturer instructions and applicable state regulations.
  • Child seats are inspected regularly and removed from service if damaged or expired.
  • Drivers receive training on proper child seat installation and verification.
  • Families are encouraged to notify us in advance of child seating needs to ensure the appropriate equipment is provided.
